Lying beside you;
there in the dark

Feeling your heart beat,

with mine.

23 years ago, a boy was born in Baltimore; USA.
Despite being raised in a single-parent-family and being diagnosed with a
rare-disorder in his youth, the boy followed in his sisters' footsteps and
took up a sport; swimming.

He excelled in it, topping age groups after age groups,
getting medals after medals.

Beijing Olympics 2008.
The world watched,
as Michael Phelps of the United States of America,
won events after events and break records after records.
Rewriting history and ensuring that his name,
will be remembered forever.

In the 2004 Athens Olympics Games,
he had 6 gold medals and made 2 world records.
in the 2007 pan-pacific championships,
he had 7 gold medals,
and making 5 world records.

in the last week,
starting August 10 2008,
he made 7 gold medals and 6 world records,
excluding the potential gold he would attain tomorrow in the 4 x 100m medley relay.

how can we doubt then,
when tabloids, websites, newspapers and televisions around the world,
screamed similar headlines:
"An immortal is born"

This immortal is Michael Phelps.on tuesday, he joined the elite ranks of 4 others who had 9 olympic gold medals
in their career.

on wednesday, he had his 10th and 11th one,
within the span of an hour.

on friday, he has his 12th one.

today, he had his 13th one.

& i was just someone who felt that,
"michael phleps? aiya just another punky swimmer."

but this morning i watched his 100 m butterfly event
and i watched as he was 7th out of 8th as he reached the 50m mark,
and i thought, gone phelps, gone.
then within the next 50m, he overtook one after another,
and reached the wall first.

it was then when the results flashed,
that i realised...

this man, is not human.

A tribute to Michael Phelps,
the greatest swimmer in history.

Softly, we whispered;
We were so sincere,
I love you.
